Hi all! I'm Ninebr34ker (9B), I run the Obscu:RE channel on Youtube. Every couple of days or so, I add to this post links to some cool PC ports, decompilations, remakes, demakes, fan games, total conversion mods, texture packs etc.

This is my favorite part of the Steam Deck/PC coming from console gaming.

Re-Makes

The Legend of Zelda: Dungeons of Infinity

This game is a procedurally-generated rogue-like ‘Link to the Past’ dungeon crawler. It’s not a rom hack, it was created in Gamemaker Studio from scratch using the original assets. Many new features and assets were added to this game, but special care was put in to ensure it still looks, feels, and plays like the original game.

OpenTyrian2000

OpenTyrian2000 is a port of the DOS shoot-em-up Tyrian 2000. Jason Emery generously gave the OpenTyrian developers a copy of the Tyrian 2.1 source code, which has since been ported from Turbo Pascal to C. The Tyrian 2000 fork uses SDL, making it easily cross-platform.

DemonStar - Original Missions

The shareware legend DemonStar comes soaring back with new game modes and revised gameplay. Originally published in 1997, DemonStar has earned the Computer Gaming World's "Shareware Game of the Year 1999" award..

Severed Chains [Legend of Dragoon]

Severed Chains is a reverse-engineered (unofficial) PC port of Legend of Dragoon. It’s a full reconstruction of its game engine, removing the boundaries typically present in emulation. In fact, it’s not emulation because this rebuild doesn’t rely on mimicking the PS1 hardware! For that reason the game runs faster, leaner, and has breakout modding capabilities. Please note that SC only works with the North American release of the game at this time. After the next major release we will look into supporting the other regional releases.

Modern Modern Chef

One of the five titles in Game & Watch Gallery 2 was Chef, a game about a chef flipping food in the air with their frying pan to keep them from touching the ground. Alongside a remake of that handheld was also Modern Chef, a mini-game featuring Peach doing the same: keeping food in the air by flipping it in her frying pan. Though added challenges included aspects of cooking the food, feeding Yoshi, keeping food from burning, etc! Modern Modern Chef is a remake of that remake! Faithfully recreated with completely hand-drawn artwork, playable with both the original gameplay style and a challenging new reaction-based game mode! Also included are several control and accessibility options plus secrets and unlockable extras!

Streets of Rage Remake

Streets of Rage Remake is a fangame developed by a team under the leadership of a Spanish developer named "Bomber Link". It was a remake of the original Streets of Rage trilogy, with usage of gameplay mechanics and original tone from the series combined with additions not previously present in the original games.

The fangame includes features such as 16:9 widescreen support, constant 60 fps gameplay, a new Time Attack mode, as well as various bug fixes and minor gameplay tweaks.

Sonic CD: Miracle Edition + MegAmi's Additions

As the earliest remastered of the classic Sonic Titles, Sonic CD has fewer changes and features compared to later remasters and Origins. AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake)

AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) is a fan-made remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus in the style of Metroid: Zero Mission. It was released in 2016 by DoctorM64 and his team, and very soon after, has received a DMCA letter from Nintendo. A few years after, multiple members of the community managed to reverse engineer the game and published unofficial updates, dubbed the AM2R-Community-Updates. Those fixed bugs and added new features like widescreen, added content planned by the original devs before they were struck down, and ported it to other platforms.

C-Dogs SDL

C-Dogs SDL is a classic overhead run-and-gun game, supporting up to 4 players in co-op and deathmatch modes. Customize your player, choose from many weapons, and blast, slide and slash your way through over 100 user-created campaigns. Have fun! C-Dogs is a freeware DOS game made between 1997-2001 by Ronny Wester, who's also known for making Cyberdogs (1994). Although relatively obscure, it was one of the more well-known games of its kind, and built a small following with many fans creating custom campaigns for it. Players loved it for its simple yet addictive gameplay and wicked explosions.

Sensible World of Soccer 2020

The Sensible Soccer series is often considered the greatest football/soccer videogame of all time. In particular Sensible World of Soccer which was the final version with player/manager mode and teams from around the world. Since the late 1990s fans have taken it in themselves to update the team rosters in the game and numerous updates have been released. With 2020 the Amiga and DOS games have been reverse engineered and rebuilt using modern libraries, meaning this is quite an update!

WipeOut Phantom Edition is an enhanced PC source port of the original WipeOut. It uses game data from the PlayStation version and is much more comparable to the PlayStation version than the official PC port.

A full-blown fan remake of the Game Boy Color version of Frogger 2, built for PC, Android, and HTML5! You can play right in your browser, or you can download the game and play offline! Play as Frogger or Lillie Frog as they conquer 32 stages to rescue the missing frog children. You can play in a variety of different ways, including with another player via local co-op, or by selecting between three different music choices (Original, Arcade, and GB Mix - which consists of a selection of tunes from certain other Game Boy titles). Mega Man 2.5D

Mega Man 2.5D is a fan-game developed by a small team of obsessive Mega Man fans. It began in 2009 as an animated proof-of-concept. This got a surprising amount of positive response, and because of this a couple of us got together with the goal of making a playable game out of it. There are mainly two things that set Mega Man 2.5D apart from most other Mega Man games. The first is the co-op mode, where two players team up to take on Dr. Wily. The other is the use of camera perspective changes which is featured a lot in the single-player mode of the game.

Open Fodder

An open source port of Cannon Fodder, an action-strategy shoot ‘em up game developed by Sensible Software and published by Virgin Interactive. The game is military-themed and based on shooting action but with a strategy game-style control system. The player directs troops through numerous missions, battling enemy infantry, vehicles and installations.

RVGL (Re-Volt)

RVGL is a cross-platform rewrite / port of Re-Volt that runs natively on a wide variety of platforms. It's powered entirely by modern, open source components. It's the version of the game used by our community. Re-Volt is an R/C car racing game from Acclaim, originally released in 1999. It features great gameplay, several game modes and realistic physics, coupled with bright and colorful visuals that still hold up to this day. It's a game aimed not only towards people who just want to play a funky arcade racing game, but also for people who seek a more competitive challenge. It's meant for all ages and occasions: play by yourself, in a local network with friends, or even online with players from all around the World!

M. Planets

This is a game designed to emulate the feel of NEStroid, while adding improvements to the graphics, sound, and mechanics. Each Planet is essentially a complete "game", but they are all bundled together and run on the same engine. There are 2 complete Planets, one of which is the original NEStroid world. The other has an original design with some additional areas and bosses. A 3rd Planet is available as a demo, and it is randomized, so each playthrough is different! You can even use a built in Room Studio to design your own rooms for it! On top of that, you can do online multiplayer (co-op or versus), item randomizer mode, and more!

Rockman 8 FC

The differences between this version and the 8-bit original versions (released for PSX and Sega Saturn) is that there is the introductory stage (you already faces the robot masters), the bolts are collected in the same manner as Rockman 7 (for Super Nintendo), is destroying common enemies in order to find bolts and items like energy tanks can be purchased. The Duo Stage does not exist, yet this version became very well done and faithful. It also includes two versions of the theme song of Tengu Man. Fork overview DoomRPG and DoomRLA contain a lot of content which can be enough for the passage of several WADs in a row. However, the original versions of these modifications give players most of the content in a short period of time, which is why the player does not have time to feel the depth of the possibilities of DoomRPG and DoomRLA. This fork intends to solve this problem. Now the content is served to the player as you progress through the levels (maps), increase the level of the character and the level of luck (a little hint: I recommend paying special attention to this parameter). In addition, some of the content (RPG's Skills, Stims, AUG, Auras, etc.) are now the things that need to be applied to survive.
